A LincolnWay area resident shared this letter with me from Melissa Bean and her colleagues that was sent to the Surface Transportation Board (Download beanoppositionletter31708.pdf). This is the letter that was referenced in the WriterRae post of March 18.
Clearly, Illinois congressional members are stepping up and advocating for the communities affected by the sale of the EJ&E to CN. To thank them for their support and encourage their continued efforts, please contact them. Those signing Congresswoman Bean's letter include:
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Illinois Senator Debbie Halvorson are also speaking out on CN's acquisition proposal and would appreciate hearing from affected residents. Senator Halvorson's current district does not include the LincolnWay area; however, she is running for the 11th Congressional District seat which does include Frankfort and other communities impacted by the sale of the EJ&E tracks.
An article from her congressional campaign web site had this to say about Senator Halvorson's involvement:
"Halvorson's current state senate district does not include Frankfort, but the town is a part of the Illinois' 11th Congressional District, in which she is currently the Democratic Nominee.
'Local residents will be dealing with the consequences of this proposal for decades,' said Halvorson. 'I may not technically represent Frankfort residents right now, but there is too much at stake for our communities for me to sit on the sidelines until November.'"
